In the new and ever-evolving world of electronic social media, The Zen Shark has developed its own identity and officially launched its own Facebook page, quite originally titled “The Zen Shark”.
A few weeks ago, as the blog’s daily average readers started to climb more rapidly, a fellow writer and publicist encouraged me to create a Facebook page for The Zen Shark in an effort to garner free publicity and direct information to more potential blog readers.
I must admit my initial protective Mother Bear response was an immediate ‘NO’: My blog is barely five-months-old, still in its formative stages, and I wasn’t sure if it or I was ready for more readers.
Reviewing my first blog entry on February 5th, the truth of the matter is I had no intention when I woke up that morning of starting a blog. To this day I still have no answer as to why I did, other than once I started to write I enjoyed the creative outlet it gave me.
When I reached out to a group of about thirty friends and family and asked them to follow the blog, I figured everyone would initially follow along consistently, but as time passed readership would drop off as people became busy with their day-to-day lives.
But for some reason “The Zen Shark” continued to appeal to readers, I was encouraged to continue to write, and the cycle continues to perpetuate itself.
But it feels weird that an inanimate object like my blog has a Facebook page and followers: I keep having weird flashes of “2001: Space Odyssey” and Hal, and one morning I’m going to wake-up and find my laptop already powered up and typing away without my input.
And if I’m not careful, will The Zen Shark change its own Facebook password without my knowledge and start hanging around with other pages from the wrong crowd that will have a bad influence? What if The Zen Shark doesn’t like our advertisers and instead starts promoting head-banger bands and tacky R-rated movies?
Will I be up late one night watching television and see The Zen Shark featured on an episode of “Cops” or God forbid “Blogs Gone Wild?”
As I don’t know how to translate blog months to people months to determine her age (like people years to dog years), I guess I will just have to keep a watchful eye on The Zen Shark's e:mails and Facebook page to keep her safe and sound.

My family and I really enjoy your "take" on family life.....the reality of it and the pure enjoyment of the lives of our kids. Please keep your blogs coming. It's how I start my day!
